Reign of the Supermen #268: Black Lantern Superboy

Source: Adventure Comics vol.2 #7 (2010)
Type: TransformationWhen you've died and come back, you might think that's just the way it works in comic books. Then again, it may be that death will come back for you later and turn you into a Black Lantern. And when it does, though that's technically a bad thing, you might also find that it gives you completely new powers. Superboy found he got two:
1. Freeze breath
And 2. Saying hurtful things to your ex-girlfriend
Ah yes, I remember well when I got that last one.

Now I remember why the Black Lanterns were so awful.

No wit to their horrible, horrible actions.

They're trying to provoke emotional response with the least subtle tools in the arsenal. They're internet troll zombies, never going for the slow, clever, really hurtful emotional depths when there's incest to suggest right at surface level.

Shameful.

That's an excellent analogy. They are like Superboy Prime in that sense, written as disgruntled fans hiding behind Internet anonymity.

And this issue of Adventure was a better tie-in than most, showing the real Connor inside himself reacting, seeing things through a fog and eventually overcoming his zombie self. Every other tie-in had none of this to add a minimum of depth to the Lanterns.
